Singapore is a city of contrasts, of many colours, diverse cultures and cuisine from the world over. There is always something happening in this beautiful tropical island. This island, located just 2° North of the equator was founded by Sir Stamford Raffles in 1819, and measures just 647.5 sq. kilometre, consisting of the main island and some 63 offshore islands. Today, Singapore is a vibrant modern city-state with four million people, made up by four main races. It is one of Asia's economic giants and the regional hub for trade, transport, banking, tourism and communications. Singapore also boasts the world's busiest ports and one of the world's best airports. Amidst the economic success of Singapore, the city still preserved its charms, and is one of the world's cleanest, greenest and safest cities. The city has excellent infrastructure, great food, wonderful sights and fascinating cultures. Some of Singapore’s exotic sights include the Singapore River, Jurong Bird Park, Orchid Gardens, Botanic Gardens, Chinese Garden, National Museum and Art Gallery, Haw Par Villa, Sentosa Island (via ferry or cable car), Singapore Zoological Gardens and the Night Safari.
